Sew a dog bed with old jeans
We adopted a dog. A lazy dog. And I thought he deserved it to be lazy in style. So I made him a super soft dog bed using four pairs of old jeans. Without much measuring, just going with the flow.
What do you need?
- Some old pillows / an old blanket / anything that is soft enouh to lie on
- Four pairs of old jeans
- Scissors
- Sewing machine
How to sew a dog bed
- Throw all pillows or other kind of stuffing on one heap, as to get an idea of what size your dog bed is going to be.
- Take a pair of jeans, and cut off the hem.
- Place your jeans along the width of the future bed, to measure where to cut the legs. Make sure to leave about 1cm seam allowance on each side.
- Cut the legs off.
- Cut the inner leg seam open. Try to cut a straight edge on both sides.
- Take both legs and put them with the right sides on top of each other. Sew one side together, turning both legs into 1 piece of fabric.
- Repeat step 2 to 6 with the other pairs of jeans, until you have a piece of fabric that is large enough to wrap it 1.5 times around your future dog bed.
- Fold the outer edges inwards, and sew the hem on both short sides.
- Fold the whole piece of fabric around your dog bed, right side on the inside, creating an envelope cover as you do so. Make sure that both ends end up in the middle, and overlap each other by at least 20 cm. Pin in place.
- Sew the longer edges together. Be careful in doing so, since you’ll be sewing through 3 layers of jeans in the middle. Not all sewing machines are fond of that.
- Turn so the right side is on the outside, and put your stuffing in. Finished!
