I already mentioned it in my previous post – Barbapapa has a very calming effect on our youngest. How could I not make a cuddly toy?

What do you need?

• Yarn in a barbapapa colour
• Leftover black and white yarn for the eyes, the mouth and the eyebrows
• Optional: pipe cleaners to make the arms bendable

Body

With main colour, make a magic ring and ch1
R1: Crochet 5sc in your magic ring
R2: 2sc in each sc (10)
R3: 2sc in 1st sc, 1sc in sc, repeat(15)
R4: 2sc in 1st sc, 1sc in 2 next sc, repeat (20)
R5: 2sc in 1st sc, 1sc in 3 next sc, repeat (25)
R6: 2sc in 1st sc, 1sc in 4 next sc, repeat (30)
R7: 2sc in 1st sc, 1sc in 5 next sc, repeat (35)
R8-R11: 1sc in each sc (35)
R12: 2sc in 1st sc, 1sc in next 6 sc, repeat (40)
R13-R16: 1sc in each sc (40)

Arm

Ch5, join to 1st ch with slip stitch
R4: Sc in next 7sc, joining last sc with 1st sc from previous round. Make sure that the thumb you created is on the outside. sc in next 2sc, 2sc together, sc in next 3sc (6)
Stuff the yarn end from the start in the little hand you just created
R5-R14: 1sc in each sc

Bind off and make second arm.

Eye

With white yarn, ch4
2sc in 2nd ch, 1sc in next ch, 4 sc in last sc.
Turn and continue working in the back loop of the previous row
1sc in 2nd ch, 2sc in last ch. Slip stitch in 1st sc
ch1, sc in next 3sc, 2sc in next sc, 2sc in next sc, sc in next 4 sc, join with slip stitch

Bind offf and make the second eye.

Finishing

Optional: Turn the end of a pipe cleaner inwards, so it doesn’t form a sharm end. Insert the pipe cleaner with this blunt end in one of the arms. Leave about 1cm sticking out of the arm, and cut. Turn this end inwards as well. Repeat for other arm.

Sew the arms to the body
Sew the eyes to the body
Use the black yarn to sew the eyes, mouth and eyebrows on

Finished! And by the way, fun guaranteed for the older family members as well. These 2 tend to fly around as barbabombs as well 🙂
