(S)mitten!

As I told you before, I wanted to knit the Give a hoot mittens. As soon as the needles arrived, I cast the stitches on and started them right away.  I was a bit worried at first, since I had never knitted anything in the round before, nor had I ever tried to do cables. I also thought knitting on four needles looked rather dangerous.

One of the colleagues in the knitting group compared it with looking like Edward Scissorhands. Striking, isn’t it?

Still, turns out knitting these mittens wasn’t that hard at all. It took me only four nights to finish both of them.

Important things I’ve learned while knitting these mittens were:

  • Make sure your wool is thick enough. Mine wasn’t, which doesn’t make these mittens ideal for winter.
  • Knit tight.
  • When starting the thumb, do a lifted increase. It will help you avoid the typical holes that often appear at the base of mitten thumbs.
