Training

I knitted on the train today. Woot! Now, I know, that actually seems like a pretty plain and regular thing to do, but for some reason, I’ve never done that before. I guess I could just imagine myself running after my ball of wool that had decided the next carriage would be much nicer for travelling. And that such a thing would happen on the exact moment when I needed to get my gear together to get off in time. Or that it would wind around bags and legs and I would be responsible for having dozens of people fall down.

But I got over that fear today. Since Tuesday is knitting-circle-day at work, I had my gear with me (the very beginning of a cardigan for my husband, for those who are curious). I already started prepping myself in the afternoon, at my desk. Just repeating the following mantra:

I will knit on the train today. I will knit on the train today. I will definitely knit on the train today‘.

It worked. I got out my mp3-player (Pink martini) and my knitting needles, and I got going. I didn’t even look around to see if I was getting weird looks or not. Instead, I even got out my magazine and started reading. I must have looked like such a good multi-tasker 😉

So I did it. I knit on the train. I even liked it. I did kind of lose track of time and suddenly realized that I nearly had to get off, but I made it in time. Fortunately, because that’s just one other big fear of mine: not getting off the train in time. But I guess I wouldn’t mind that much anymore, now that I can just consider that time as extra knitting time 🙂

So, how about you guys? Do you knit on the train? Do you read while knitting, or watch television? Or do you concentrate on knitting alone, and nothing else?

  1. Awesome! I wish I took the train, I would for sure knit on it. I remember going from Austria to Italy and seeing the lady across from me knit baby booties. I was impressed. I had never seen that done before! And now — well, I don’t knit. But I do crochet everywhere. dr’s office, work, long car trips (if hubs is driving).
