Owl cushion – Free pattern
A while ago, I already mentioned that here in Belgium, we have a certain tradition when babies are born. As you may remember, I was making the baby keepsakes that come with the chocolate myself. And while I still had loads to make back then, I did finish them in time. Of course, it helped that my little boy was one week late (just kidding, I was completely ready, but apparently he wasn’t).
We started off with a theme: cute little owls. Since my hubby is quite the artist in Adobe Illustrator, he designed the card himself.
While the back mentions our son’s name and our details (which were removed here), the front displays our life story in 6 steps.
That’s what you get when you both are technical writers!
I used the owls from the card to create a pattern for little stuffed owls. Materials used: scrap fabric, ribbon that had my son’s name printed on it, felt, and stuffing, of course. They are meant as a little toy, but you can also use them as a pin cushion, or as a Christmas tree ornament. Which reminds me, I should hang one of these in my car as well.
I must say, making these took a lot more time than I had bargained for. On the other hand, they did make a great couch-potato excuse. Since I sewed the eyes and beak on manually, I had the time to watch a lot of episodes of Drop Dead Diva while doing so. All of them, actually. And then some. Thank you, Jane!
And then, the most important part: the chocolates! I went for a mix of white and blue.
I found cute little bags at Ava and just stapled the owls onto the bags.
And then I realized: I couldn’t be giving away all these owls without making one for my own little owl, right? So I kindly asked my hubby to blow up one of those owls. Now my little owl has a big owl.
It’s also proving itself a great way to measure how fast my baby is growing.
Grow wise, my little owl.
