The big yarn stash

How do you keep track of all the yarn that you have lying around the house? Do you have an amazingly spacy craft room where you have labeled cabinets where it is all arranged according to colour? Do you have them all neatly stored away in big boxes? Or do you have yarn lying all over the house, like I have?

Now that we have a big move coming in a few months, I thought it was time to start organizing. You know, in my head, I really am a neat person. I love having a fixed place for everything, preferably all indicated with nice labels. In practice, everything always looks like a mess. I don’t know how I do it.

So, I decided to finally make use of the Ravelry Stash tab: just enter all yarn that you have lying around, and it’ll work like a charming little inventory. In the end, it took me hours to complete it all, but I held on until the very end. Yeay! If you are a Ravelry member, you can view my stash online. If you are not a member yet, you can sign up for free, or you can view them all on flickr.

So, for now, all my yarn is stashed in boxes and plastic bags. They will be for a while, since we still have to start renovating our new house and a craft room is not the highest priority. Right now, it looks like this:

True, I already have a place to stash everything. But it would soon look like a pile, that’s for sure. I want it to look more like Martha Stewart’s craft room, but it’s still not completely as I would like it. That may have to do with the furniture in it, I don’t want it to look as if I’ll be retiring soon (sorry Martha!). So, if any of you have inspiration or you have a fabulous craft room your own, please let me know. I can use all the tips, tricks and hints I can find!

  1. I’m impressed. I would not even venture to start my Rav stash! haha! And mine is mostly in the craft room. But some is in the front room by the tv. And my “current projects” (or really, current at this moment projects) are in a tote bag which moves around the house / car / office with me 🙂
