So… Once again it’s been a while since I last wrote something here. But not the usual excuses this time. No, this time, I can proudly say that I gave birth since I last posted a blog post here. That’s right, I’m a mommy now! And a very proud one, that’s for sure. So here he is, our son.
Our very own cutie pie.
Of course, I wouldn’t be a crafting blogger mom if I didn’t already have something ready so he could start practicing his modeling skills. His first show item: crocheted baby converse shoes. Well, that should actually read shoe. As in singular.
First lesson in baby photography: baby feet only stay still when they want to, not when you want them to…
Also, I made these sneakers on the train, before Nand was even born. I didn’t really know back then that he would already have pretty big feet. So the baby size is kind of too small. So when I put on the first one, Nand wasn’t very pleased with it at all. I managed to take some quick pictures, but I took the sneaker back off again quickly after that. I could already feel a first fight coming up and I’m not ready yet for the first argument with my son.
I guess I just summed up the reasons why projects like these are always photographed separately. Somewhat more like this:
Unfortunately, too small. But fortunately, there’s also something as pregnancy brain. Yes, fortunately. Because after I had finished the first sneaker and started doing the second one, I forgot (or missed it completely when following the instructions) that I had to switch to a smaller hook size. So I ended up with a bigger sneaker than the first one. Quite an odd pair.
I made two more eventually, a smaller size and a bigger size, so I would have a decent pair in each size. The baby size is too small, that we already now. But Nand will still grow into the bigger size. And hopefully I remember it in time that I still have them lying around, so I can take a decent picture, with a very willing baby.
As for a review of the pattern… It’s been so long since I made these and so much has happened, that I don’t really remember where I had problems. And yes, I did take notes, but who knows where they ended up… To be honest, I still have to find the second sneaker in the bigger size back before Nand gets too big as well. I guess my notes are with that sneaker somewhere in this pile of UFOs…
Anyway, as you have noticed from previous blog posts, I crochet a lot less than I knit. And I know a lot less about crocheting than I do about knitting. So, I remember the pattern being explained in detail, taking you through the whole thing step by step. The only problem I sometimes had was knowing where exactly I had to insert my hook. But that’s actually a problem I always have when crocheting. If anyone should have some tips about that, I’m willing to learn!
So, if you want to make these as a present for someone about to give birth, just remember to visit them as soon as the baby is born and don’t wait for a couple of weeks, since they will grow out of them sooner than you think. Oh well, maybe I’ll have better luck with the next kid 😉
