For apples and pears – Zo geknipt sew along project 11

April was the month to sew project 11 during the Zo Geknipt! sew along. Time for the For apples and pears shirt. And I was looking forward to it. Starting from scratch, I hadn’t done so since pattern drawing class. Drawing went smoothly, the instructions were very clear. And the book doesn’t lie: once you’ve finished the pattern, sewing only takes a fraction of time. But of course I had to tweak it a tiny bit.

Fabric choice was simple: the same fabric for the whole thing. The book warned me that choosing different colours would lead to me making my shoulders wider. And since my shoulders are very straight and quite broad, I should avoid that at all cost. To break the colour a bit, I used white thread.

This pattern has very straight seams in the side. Since I have broad shoulders, I don’t get away with that, so I tailored it all a bit in my waist.

The front gaped a bit as well, so I added a tiny plead on both sides, fixing them in place with a button. Depending on how I stand, it still gapes, but it’s a bit better already.

If I ever make a second version, I would narrow the front panel a bit, and cut it a bit lower as well. Now it’s quite high, and I have the feeling it does something strange to my front. I guess the wide neck makes my shoulders look broader, I don’t know. Something just doesn’t feel right.

In the back, my hollow back influences the way the shirt looks as well. It doesn’t bother me, but it’s something to keep in mind the next time.

I love wearing it, it’s very comfortable. I’d never used Punta di Roma before, but it’s very soft and lovely to wear. I have another colour lying around, but I’m not sure yet whether I’ll make a pimped version of this shirt or not. Should I?
