Day care diary

My maternity leave is coming to an end. One more week to go, and then I’ll be back at work. Which means my little boy will have to go to day care. And a little day care diary will come in pretty handy.
Leven met Liv’s blog showed me how she had made such a booklet all by herself. And she was so nice to write a tutorial for it as well. So I got going. With a bit of paper, and a cardboard rice box. Those things seem to be made to create booklets with.

I also used the template that came with the tutorial, but I asked my hubby to work a bit of his magic, to make it look more like Nand’s card.

I also added a manual on how to work with my boy.

With accompanying glossary. As said before, either you are a technical writer, or you’re not.

And then it was time to see if I had any talent to become a book binder. The answer: No. I used double basting thread, and it wasn’t the best idea. So many loose ends! And I just wasn’t able to get the whole thing perfectly alligned with the back of the cover. Where’s that helping finger when you need it?

By the time I finished it, there were still some gaps where they weren’t supposed to be. But I just taped them up with Scotch tape. The result will do.
The original manual also showed how to make a cover. But since Recipe 17 in the Zo geknipt! book consists of a cover, I chose to make that one. More details will follow once the sew along is there.

This morning my boy went to day care for half a day for the first time, to get used to it. Needless to say that some tears were shed. On both sides (although I saved mine for when I got back home). But the first page of his booklet has been filled out already.
