Preparations

Here in Belgium, the tradition when a baby is born is that all people who come to visit get a little souvenir. The treat that comes with it can be just about anything, but in 99 percent of the cases, you’ll get chocolate dragees covered with a sugar coating. I remember them being just white when I was a kid, but now they come in all colours and sizes.

Personally, I love them. I’m not too happy when I visit a newborn baby and the parents belong to the 1 percent who replaced the dragees with a different kind of treat. Stick to the tradition, people!

With three months to go, my hubby and I thought it was about time to start thinking about the card and a souvenir that went with it. Luckily, hubby is great with Adobe Illustrator, and the card is beginning to look really nice. And that’s where I step in, making the souvenirs that are in line with the card and that will be attached to the dragees.

I don’t want to ruin the surprise just yet, partly because I always prefer to play it safe as well. If I don’t give anything away just yet, you won’t know when I change course completely either. Tihi!

But, I already started drawing, cutting and sewing a bit. Here’s a so-called teaser:

PreparationsAs you can see (or maybe not), I’m using some of my scrap fabric. The blue fabric with the white flowers was once used to make a dress, the stripes were used as lining for a jacket for my hubby. Pre-blog projects, so unfortunately no pictures or posts about it.

I don’t think it’s very obvious in the picture, but those are about 50 tiny treats waiting to get sewn up. I’ll need to do at least 100 more. And that’s just the cutting and sewing… I’d better stop writing and start going!

  1. That’s food for thought girlie 🙂
I do belong to that 1 percent who thought of replacing the sweets with something else.
I will ponder over this one. Not sure what I want to do anymore.
