Cat toys

I was ill at the beginning of this week: inflamed bronchial tubes. No voice and a lot of coughing. Doctor’s advice: have some rest. No need to say I spent a lot of time on the couch, either watching tv or sleeping. I found a lot of comfort in watching True Blood. And in our two cats: Pino and Tigra. They immediately sacrificed all their free time and stuck with me, sleeping all day long. That’s cats and their infinite compassion 😉

Those moments that I was awake and watching tv, I thought I should put to good use. So I took out my knitting gear. Since I do have a lot of half-used skeins of yarn, I wanted to do something with all these leftovers. And what better use than to make cat toys out of them?

So, once again, I turned to Debbie Stoller. In her Stitch ‘n Bitch Nation, there’s a pattern by Michelle Ameron for a catwarming set. This sets consists of two kinds of toys. The first kind is a pair of balls joined together by a cord.

You can then hold one ball, throw the other, and yank the cord, so your cat can chase it. However, in practice, my husband and I have mostly been throwing it at each other. Those balls bounce easily, and we are easily amused 🙂

The second part consists of three blind mice. Now, these really are a success.

It’s so cute to see Pino and Tigra chasing them around the house, even carrying them around. Now, I did make the mistake of handing them the first mouse as soon as it was ready, without taking a picture of it. Guess which one it is 😉

  1. Maybe I should knit up some extra ones and drop them off in your mailbox, Jo. And then the cats can hide them everywhere without you noticing, haha.
